Cardiac Care
Cardiac Care in Physiotherapy
Coronary heart disease is one of the leading causes of death in India, and hospital stays are increasingly shortened, placing a greater emphasis on rehabilitation. Cardiac rehabilitation is most effective when started before heart surgery, though it typically begins after surgery, a myocardial infarction (heart attack), or for individuals prone to chronic heart failure. Prevention programs can also be provided for patients diagnosed with cardiac conditions.
Rehabilitation starts once arrhythmias, acute heart failure, and ischemia are stabilized through medication or surgery. Initially, it involves a balanced approach of rest and gentle, progressive exercises, beginning with sitting exercises, progressing to walking, and eventually stair climbing. After discharge, especially post-surgery, patients follow a convalescent program that includes steady but not overly strenuous exercise. An outpatient rehabilitation program typically spans 3-6 weeks after surgery or angioplasty, and 4-8 weeks after a myocardial infarction.
Phase II Rehabilitation
Phase II of cardiac rehabilitation begins after hospitalization, focusing on the early at-home period following discharge. This phase typically lasts for 8-12 weeks and involves a steady program of exercise aimed at physical reconditioning. At Re-Live Orthopaedic, Physiotherapy & Wellness Clinic, we initiate the second phase with outpatient or home exercise programs, followed by a community program to maintain the progress made and encourage a lifelong commitment to fitness and health management.

Phase III Rehabilitation
Phase III provides a supervised environment where individuals can exercise regularly and safely under the guidance of a physiotherapist. This phase may last several months or even indefinitely, allowing participants to progress from supervised sessions to self-regulated exercise programs, ensuring continued improvement and maintaining heart health.
